Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United will be delighted with Cristiano Ronaldo exit

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United will be delighted with the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from the club.

Ever since Ronaldo hit out at the club, Erik ten Hag and a number of his former teammates, Manchester United have been looking to cut ties with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

It was only a matter of time, not if, he would leave the club.

United have got it done and dusted well before the players return from the World Cup, which is good news for Ten Hag. He doesn’t want any distractions when the competitive fixtures return.

The timing of the announcement may not be appreciated by Portugal, but the situation was created a week ago by Ronaldo, and this had to happen sooner rather than later.

Ferdinand, who has constantly stuck up for Ronaldo, says he is unsure of where his future now lies.

“I think that both parties will be delighted now,” Ferdinand said on BBC, as per the Irish Examiner. “He obviously did the interview with the mindset that he wanted to get out of the football club. He Wasn’t happy, he made that very clear.

“But I also think that Erik Ten Hag has got what he wanted as well in this situation. Both parties are happy, move on. It is the next chapter for Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It depends on what his motivation is. Is it to play in the Champions League? Is it money? Is it money? Is it to just continue playing somewhere with a nice climate? This will be going on behind the scenes and I’m sure we will find out in due course.”

Ronaldo has been linked with several clubs in recent weeks, but none of the reported interest looks genuine as of yet. This one will likely drag on until January.

He will have options to go to a different continent if he fancies.
