Tyrell Malacia claims former Manchester United striker could win World Cup Golden Boot

Tyrell Malacia has weighed in on the World Cup ahead of his first outing on the world’s biggest stage.

The 23-year-old joined Manchester United in the summer and has proved to be an impressive piece of business from Erik ten Hag.

Malacia has provided competition for Luke Shaw in the left-back role, which has even resulted in the Englishman’s form improving as he aims to cement his place in the starting 11.

Ten Hag has even opted to deploy Malacia on the right flank, showing his ability to adapt and meet the manager’s demands.

After a fine start to the season for the Red Devils, he was named by former United manager Louis van Gaal to represent the Netherlands at the World Cup in Qatar.

He is one of 14 Reds that will be playing at the tournament – the second highest in the Premier League.

Malacia lauds mix of experience and youth for Netherlands

Malacia is ready to take the opportunity with both hands. He told MUTV: “A really, really big achievement [to represent Netherlands]. I can’t describe it myself, it’s amazing.

“From the beginning when I made my first cap, until now, they [family back home] are so proud and really happy for me.”

Regarding Louis van Gaal’s experience, he added: “Of course, he knows a lot, helps us a lot and talks with us a lot because he has a lot of experience. Also for the younger players, we have some guys in the team that have already played World Cups. I think our team has a bit of everything.”

Malacia also tipped former Red Memphis Depay to win the Golden Boot in the tournament.

Netherlands kick off their tournament against Senegal at 4 pm.
