Dimitar Berbatov compares Lisandro Martinez to Man Utd legend

Dimitar Berbatov has compared Manchester United’s summer signing Lisandro Martinez to former Red Nemanja Vidic.

The Argentinian has become an instant fan-favourite amongst the Old Trafford faithful for his abilities across the pitch. Not only is he solid as a rock in defence, but he can also contribute to the attack with his outstanding passing and vision.

Martinez is regularly greeted by the fans with chants of “Argentina!”, which only increased since the debut and form of Alejandro Garnacho – who Martinez sees as akin to a “little brother”.

To be compared to Vidic is a huge compliment, as the Serbian was one of the best centre-defenders in world football and, potentially, the best in Premier League history.

Vidic played with no fear; he would dive head-first into a challenge and commit to every tackle, even if it meant leaving the pitch bloody and bruised.

That kind of passion and commitment to the team was the exact kind of figure United needed under Erik ten Hag, and Martinez has shown he could be it.

In an interview with MUTV, the Bulgarian said: “Lisandro Martinez, I think he has no fear. No fear.

“He is going into challenges and just in a way, a small way, he reminds me of Vida [Vidic] because he is putting himself out there with the body and trying to fight for the team.”
