Eriksen not dreaming about World Cup yet as United have work to do at Fulham

A hot topic of conversation among fans this week has been about players with one eye on the World Cup which starts next week. I, for one, try my best not to blame them for this because it’s not their fault that the World Cup is taking place midway through the domestic campaign.

The World Cup taking place in Qatar is bad for a number of reasons, but even the players involved must feel that FIFA did not have their best interests at heart when them made some of their worst decisions around the forthcoming tournament.

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has done an interview to stress that his only thoughts at the moment are on the Red Devils gaining three points from their trip to Fulham.

“[It’s] very, very big,” Eriksen told ManUtd.com. “Take away the last game at Villa, we were so disappointed and, on Thursday, to be back on track, it was good to get the win and go through and now, to finish off before the World Cup, we want to finish off as high as possible, and that’s with a win.

“One hundred per cent, I think everyone will be [fully focused]. I think everyone wants to finish well and finish in good shape before the World Cup but also, as a club, it’s where we want to start when we come back from the World Cup. We want to be in the best position possible and that’s with three points at Fulham. I’m looking forward to the game.”

That comes as music to our ears – but do you really believe it?

I’m expecting a tough game today because Fulham have been decent this season. They will be aware of the fact we’ve got a lot of players going to the World Cup, so in theory, it’s the perfect time for an upset. It comes as a relief that their star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic misses the game.

Erik ten Hag must ensure that Eriksen is speaking on behalf of the team when he talks about his focus being on United winning their last game before the World Cup.

We would like to wish Eriksen and Denmark the very best at the World Cup, however, let’s just make sure United win today. Priorities!
