Man United loanee likened to Liverpool star after another impressive performance

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has endured a difficult period since joining the club from Atalanta in January 2021 but the Ivorian has impressed in spells.

Amad’s first six months were encouraging and his efforts even earned him a place with the senior Ivory Coast side before eventually joining Rangers on loan.

Unfortunately, it didn’t quite work out for him and after working with Erik ten Hag during pre-season, it was decided that he would be heading out on loan again this season.

Amad joined Sunderland on loan and after a difficult start, it looks like he’s finally finding his feet at the Championship club. Speaking after the Black Cats’ 2-0 win over Huddersfield earlier this week, in which Amad scored the second goal late on, manager Tony Mowbray hailed Amad and likened him to Liverpool star Harvey Elliott.

“At Blackburn Rovers, we had Harvey Elliott for a whole season (2020-21) and sometimes they have to make the step up,” Mowbray is quoted as saying by The Metro.

“Amad has got amazing talent like Harvey Elliott had amazing talent. Whether he makes the jump to play for Manchester United, where they have to win every game, we’ll have to see what the future holds. But I’m really pleased that he’s with us.

“We can see on the training pitch that he’s got amazing talent. You can see why Manchester United might’ve paid an incredible amount of money for him.

“The ball sticks to his foot, he’s fast and he knows where the net is. He just has to play football and enjoy it.”

SN’s verdict…
It definitely feels like Amad needs to do well at Sunderland this season if he wants to rescue his career at Old Trafford, with United investing heavily in his favourite positions.

Jadon Sancho and Antony have both joined the club after Amad and they are some of the most expensive transfers United have ever completed.

The deal to sign Amad from Atalanta was hardly free and United will be desperate to get some kind of return on their investment but things are finally looking up.
