Manchester United Women target full-backs to add depth to squad

Manchester United Women are keen to strengthen their depth at full-back in the upcoming transfer windows, having made a promising start to the WSL season after prioritising attacking players during the summer transfer window.

Four attacking players joined during the summer, one midfielder and two additions in defence.

However, after letting both Kirsty Smith and Martha Harris go at the end of last season, United are looking light in the full-back department as well as increasingly over-relient on Ona Batlle and Hannah Blundell.

The women’s team head coach, Marc Skinner, has confirmed that they will look to address this issue in future transfer windows.

“It is something we will address going forwards, for sure,” Skinner said, as per 90min.

“When I looked at how we could structure these next few [transfer] windows, I always wanted to hit the front line first so that we could win games of football.

“The beauty is Leah could easily be a wonderful left-back as well…that’s the strength of her. With Ona not there, you’re always going to miss a world class full-back, but I though Maria did a great job coming in [against Leicester]. Also Maya can play at full-back. We have that depth and ability.”
