Victor Lindelof hails new Manchester United signing as a fantastic player

Victor Lindelof was full of praise for his fellow defender Lisandro Martinez during Manchester United’s pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash.

When speaking on the Argentinian’s arrival, he said (via ManUtd.com): “It’s been good, I think since he came he’s been performing at a good level and he’s a fantastic player. I think he’s very good with the ball.

“I’ve played two games with him now and I think the last game was better than the first one. I think we did a good game.”

Martinez was awarded United’s Player of the Month award in August after several impressive performances and has quickly become a fan favourite amongst the United faithful for his passion, ability and contributions on the pitch – both on and off the ball.

The first time the pair featured together was during United’s disappointing 6-3 loss to rivals Manchester City on October 2. The Swedish international replaced an injured Raphael Varane in the 40th minute.

The pair’s first start as a centre-back partnership

Erik ten Hag started the two together for the first time when United travelled to Goodison Park to face Everton on October 9. An early, somewhat unstoppable, strike from Alex Iwobi saw Frank Lampard’s side take an early lead before the Reds overcame the deficit before half-time, thanks to goals from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo.

In a tightly contested affair, United saw out the win and secured the three points.

Lindelof and Martinez may start against Newcastle United on Sunday, October 16 to ensure Varane is fully recovered from the injury sustained against City.
