Brentford’s Ivan Toney gives verdict on Lisandro Martinez after 4-0 win over United

Brentford striker Ivan Toney said it was a compliment to see Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez hauled off at half-time during their 4-0 win on Saturday.

The English striker enjoyed success against Martinez and the Argentine was replaced by Raphael Varane at the break, with United already 4-0 down.

There is no denying that Brentford targeted Martinez in the air because of his height, but this team must learn how to deal with that to use the new addition to our advantage.

Toney praised Martinez after the game for his aggression and ability to win duels on the floor.

“To be fair to him he was doing well and was very aggressive for a centre-back. Obviously, if he gets beaten in the air he does well on the floor,” said Toney, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“It was a 50-50 and sometimes I got the better of him and sometimes he got the better of me. It is a compliment for me, him getting subbed off at half-time – but whether it was for me or for a different thing they wanted to do we won’t worry.”
