From Barcelona to Turin – John Murtough has had the pleasure of visiting some of Europe’s biggest cities this summer. The football director has been unable to strike a deal for primary transfer target Frenkie de Jong, but talks have since moved on and Manchester United are now trying to sign Adrien Rabiot.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims John Murtough has been tasked with negotiating Rabiot’s salary, with another meeting scheduled today, while other reports stress he is unwilling to take a pay cut for a club that isn’t competing in the Champions League.

Murtough has spent the summer seeking midfield reinforcements and there is only three weeks left until transfer deadline day.

Photographers in Turin have managed to snap a picture of him getting into a car this morning.

United suffered a 2-1 defeat on the opening day of the season against Brighton, as Erik ten Hag watched his midfield get overrun by Graham Potter’s side. It wasn’t an easy watch and it piled even more pressure on Murtough to deliver in the transfer window.

Widespread reports suggest United already have an agreement in place with Juventus, so everything hangs on how talks proceed with Rabiot’s mum and agent Veronique.
