Saha urges United to move on from De Jong as saga drags on

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has suggested that Manchester United should walk away from a deal with Frenkie de Jong.

It has dragged on far too long – over 10-weeks – yet we’re none the wiser on where De Jong will play his football if sold by Barcelona.

Chelsea are in the running but you still can’t rule United out. If United decide to walk away I think it would only be down to Chelsea’s likelihood to win the race for his signature.

Speaking to SkyBet, Louis Saha said: “It’s a fair point that maybe Manchester United should look at someone else if Frenkie de Jong doesn’t want to come. Over the years it has become harder for Man United to attract players they want.

“All those big clubs get ahead of you or at least have a similar attraction. It could be the status of the club, the history of the club or the chances that club has to win the Champions League.

“At the same time, they might have a better structure financially to offer to a player. It’s all these areas that have become challenging over recent years. They will have to deal with this until they win the Champions League.

“Man United will remain with this category of club and have to fight to sign a player. There is no leverage or more like ‘if you’re not happy, I can get another player.”
