Thomas Tuchel is a keen admirer of United target Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong’s future has been up in the air all summer.

Manchester United looked like Frenkie de Jong only route out of Camp Nou this summer, but now we are hearing that Chelsea are interested in signing the Barcelona midfielder.

According to the Athletic, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is pushing to add De Jong to his squad this summer, which could come as bad news to United. It is also suggested that Champions League football makes Chelsea a more desirable destination than United.

Liam Twomey and Simon Johnson report: “Chelsea are watching De Jong’s mess of a situation at Barcelona with considerable interest. Tuchel is a keen admirer and the Netherlands international would present an elite succession plan to the Champions League – winning N’Golo Kante-Jorginho “double six” that, contractually speaking, could be a thing of the past as soon as the summer of 2023.”

The Red Devils have spent over 10-weeks trying to negotiate a deal, however, it is believed that De Jong is not interested in discussing his future until Barcelona pay the €17m he is owed in deferred wages.

De Jong’s preference has always been to stay at Barca.

Meanwhile, Gary Neville claims he has heard De Jong would prefer to join Chelsea over United, after speaking to a third-hand source in Miami two weeks ago.

Let us know in the comments section where you think De Jong will be playing his football next season.

  1. Neves. I am convinced he the better option. Plays that deeper role for Portugal with aplomb. And sure he would love to don the Man United Jersey.
