Christian Eriksen dealt Man United hammer blow

Christian Eriksen is close to being unveiled as Manchester United’s second summer signing.

Leading transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently reported that pending some final legal checks, Eriksen is set to be officially announced as Erik ten Hag’s second signing following the recent arrival of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

However, despite the excitement of Eriksen’s impending arrival, the Denmark international is likely to be left gutted if Cristiano Ronaldo ends up departing Old Trafford.

Ronaldo is believed to be against spending next season in the Europa League and consequently, is now considering moving to a club competing in the more prestigious Champions League.

Former defender Rio Ferdinand recently leapt to the 37-year-old’s defence.

“You’re talking about Cristiano Ronaldo here!” the ex-England international said on his Five YouTube channel.

“I don’t understand how it’s a big story that Cristiano Ronaldo is not happy with the way things are at Man United. He can’t be. I wouldn’t be.”

Regardless of Ronaldo’s motives though, Eriksen won’t be best pleased to see the former Real Madrid star leave. According to the Express, a key factor in the 30-year-old’s decision to choose United as his next destination was the prospect of assisting the five-time Ballon d’Or winner – it was also a potential partnership that was discussed during earlier negotiations.

United appear to have finally admitted defeat in their quest to retain the Portuguese superstar and are now prepared to listen to offers (90min) – one club expected to launch a bid is Todd Boehly’s Chelsea.
