Saha: Fernandes can be United’s main man next season

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes Bruno Fernandes can be the main man under Erik ten Hag next season.

The Portugal international is currently on holiday after featuring in the UEFA Nations League. He has been one of our better players since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, earning the nickname ‘Portuguese Magnificio’ amongst fans, but his form dipped massively last season – like many of his teammates.

However, Fernandes still managed 10 goals and 14 assists for United across all competitions.

While raving about Fernandes, Saha says only two players escape criticism from last season after United finished sixth. He gave that shield to Cristiano Ronaldo and David de Gea, but let’s face it, they had their moments too.

Saha said: “Bruno Fernandes can be the main man at Man United next season, he definitely has the quality to do that. I expected him to struggle a little bit because his form when he arrived was exceptional.

“During some games last season, the fans saw that he’s capable of doing amazing things, but to do it on a regular basis is the challenge and if the club is always in transition and always changing It’s never easy for players. Bruno is definitely one of the star players, but a lot of players in the squad have to improve their game from last season as I believe only Cristiano Ronaldo and David de Gea can escape criticism.

“Bruno works hard and turns up fighting even when he’s not playing well and that’s the type of people that need to lead Man United forward.”
