Catalan journalist claims Man City don’t want De Jong in exchange for Silva

Frenkie de Jong offered a reminder of how good a player he can be when representing the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League.

Dutch manager Louis van Gaal waxed lyrical about the midfielder amid transfer links to Manchester United, while the 25-year-old has flattered to deceive for Barcelona, as per Voetball International.

De Jong is Erik ten Hag’s primary target this summer and it would be a failure on John Murtough’s behalf if the club fail in their bid to land the new manager’s top target.

This is a player Ten Hag wants to build his United team around having managed him previously at Ajax.

There has always been a fear that Man City could register an interest in De Jong and scupper our transfer plans by offering him Champions League football, especially with Barcelona looking to sign Bernardo Silva, but Catalan journalist Helana Condis claims they are not interested in signing the Dutch ace.

The Cope writer’s tweet, as seen below, translates: “At Barca they are fully convinced that they will be able to sign Bernardo Silva. This has been transferred for him through his agent, Mendes. The player environment believes that they must have patience. Exchanges ruled out: City do not want De Jong.”

That means United have a clear run at their main target and Murtough can have no excuses if he fails to deliver.

This news comes as a relief because it doesn’t look like United are finding it easy to get any deals over the line this summer.
