Paul Pogba opens up on Jose Mourinho feud in new documentary

Paul Pogba has a knack for always finding himself in the limelight and despite announcing his departure from Manchester United earlier this week, the Frenchman is still making headlines.

The 29-year-old is due to leave United at the end of this month, with a move to Juventus believed to be on the horizon. It would be the second time in 10 years Pogba leaves United on a free transfer to join the Turin club.

The midfielder has been shadowed by a camera crew for the past year and the result was finally released earlier this week, with ‘The Pogmentary’ containing several interesting stories from his six years at United.

In one episode, Pogba opens up on his infamous feud with Jose Mourinho. The pair clashed in Mourinho’s third season at the club and Pogba has now revealed the incident that kickstarted it all.

“It started when I got injured. I said I was going to Miami to do rehabilitation,” he said on the Prime Video documentary, via Goal.

“A paparazzi took a photo of Zulay [Pogba’s wife] and me. Jose sent the picture to Mino [Raiola]. I didn’t like that at all. He said he’s on holiday when we are working like [expletive].

“I told Mourinho are you serious? I’m injured. I train three times a day here. Who do you think I am? It was new to me to have an issue with my coach.”

Later in the episode, Pogba added that he would have no qualms about meeting up with Mourinho today as he does not hold grudges.

SN’s verdict…
Mourinho’s feud with Pogba was an interesting one to watch from the outside and at the time, you would be forgiven for taking Pogba’s side in it all. Most United fans did.

As time passed, it became increasingly clear that Mourinho was completely correct in his assessment of Pogba. That’s not to say that Mourinho would have escaped the sack if Pogba was sacrificed but there certainly was an element of ‘him or me’ in it all.

United decided to go with Pogba and a few flashes of brilliance aside, they never saw the best of it.
