Ronaldo, Fernandes and Dalot called up by Portugal

Manchester United trio Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot have been called up by Portugal ahead of June’s set of international fixtures.

Portugal sealed qualification for this year’s World Cup in dramatic fashion earlier this season and have now named their squad to take part in June’s Nations League group stage, with four games to be played.

Ronaldo and Fernandes were part of the side which won the inaugural Nations League tournament in 2019 and will now welcome Dalot to the squad, who has become a regular under Fernando Santos since last summer’s European Championship.

Portugal will face Switzerland twice in the four-game affair, with each game sandwiched between clashes against Spain and Switzerland. Spain are among the favourites to win the tournament, having narrowly lost out to France in last year’s dramatic final.

Fernandes scored two goals in their World Cup play-off final in March and is becoming increasingly pivotal to Santos’ side, despite struggling to make an impact in their disappointing EURO 2020 campaign.

Joao Cancelo’s stocks are high and he’s unlikely to be dropped anytime soon but Dalot’s impressive performances on international level could unnerve the Manchester City defender.

Leicester’s Ricardo Pereira and Arsenal’s Cedric Soares are some of the players to have missed out on a spot.
