Manchester United stance on Diogo Dalot following Erik ten Hag decision

It sounds like Diogo Dalot is part of Erik ten Hag’s plans at Manchester United for next season.

The 23-year-old has ousted Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back after becoming a key part of Portugal’s national team at last year’s European Championship.

It’s been clear since Ralf Rangnick took charge as interim manager that Dalot is considered a better option than Wan-Bissaka, who has not developed since joining the club from Crystal Palace in 2019.

Dalot spent last season on loan at AC Milan but I don’t think his performances this season have warranted him safety in the sense that he could be a starter under Ten Hag last season.

At the same time, the Manchester Evening News understands that Dalot has been told he is in the Dutchman’s plans.

United will try to sign a new right-back if reports are true and Dalot could become a backup option. The MEN reported last week that United are open to selling Wan-Bissaka and it would be a bad idea to sell our only two options in the position.

Also, if Dalot is part of Ten Hag’s plans for next season, I think we should expect United to make a signing a right-back this summer.

The Portugal international is a decent backup option but I wouldn’t want to be going into another campaign with a such a strong possibility of Dalot starting games.
