Man Utd star agreed terms with Man City before abandoning transfer

Paul Pogba has been the subject of intense speculation for the last four years and despite suggestions that he was amenable to staying at United last summer, he is now set to leave on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old will repeat the trick which saw him join Juventus ten years ago and supporters were stunned on social media when reports flooded through that he could be joining rivals Manchester City.

Pogba has not featured for United since last month’s 4-0 defeat at Anfield and is believed to have played his final game for the club.

According to The Times, Pogba went as far as to agree on personal terms with Pep Guardiola’s side but ended up abandoning the move due to fears of backlash from United supporters, informing City that he would be moving abroad instead.

City are believed to have been willing to match Pogba’s wage demands and offer him the chance to compete in their strong squad but were left red-faced following Pogba’s decision two weeks ago.

It’s believed that the France international believes his life would have become unbearable due to the negative reaction from the red half of Manchester.

SN’s verdict…
Transfers between the red and blue sides of Manchester are very rare and should Pogba have become one of the very few players to represent both clubs, he would have become a target.

There is already animosity in Pogba’s broken relationship with the Old Trafford faithful and a move across town would tip the scales.

He is out of contract this summer and is free to do whatever he wants but if he has any intention of repairing that relationship with United fans, a move to City would have been out of the question.

  1. I don’t believe a word of this. If City or Bin dippers offered him good money he would be there in a flash. Not good enough for the Premier League and bad attitude in the dressing room. Fergie was right, just a virus !
