Luis Enrique drops David de Gea from Spain squad

David de Gea has been dealt a huge blow after being omitted from Luis Enrique’s Spain squad for the upcoming international break.

Although it is known that Enrique is not De Gea’s biggest fan, this is the first time the Spain head coach has completely dropped the Manchester United shot stopper from the squad, so he will not be adding to his 45 Spain caps anytime soon.

Enrique tends to prefer Unai Simon but this time around he has also been overlooked for Premier League duo Robert Sancho and David Raya.

Spain have two big games in Barcelona and A Coruna, on March 26 and 29, against Albania and Iceland.

It doesn’t help that De Gea’s distribution is one of his biggest weaknesses and, on top of that, Spain like to play out from the back.

Full Spain squad:

Unai Simon, R. Sanchez, D. Raya, Alba, M. Alonso, Pau Torres, Laporte, Eric Garcia, Llorente, Azpilicueta, Carvajal, Pedri, M. Llorente, Rodri, Koke, Gavi, C.Soler, Dani Olmo, Sarabia, Morata, Raul De Tomas, F. Torres, Yeremy.
