Ralf Rangnick confirms Man United attacker picked up late injury

Manchester United are preparing to face Southampton in the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday afternoon but have been forced to be without striker Edinson Cavani who has picked up an untimely injury.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that Cavani picked up a groin injury during a late training session on Friday.

The Red Devils losing the experienced South American will undoubtedly serve as a blow, especially when the club will be desperate to get back to winning ways following a 1-1 draw against Burnley last time out.

In an effort to work around Cavani’s absence, Rangnick has still named a strong starting 11, including Cristiano Ronaldo leading the line with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho supporting the Portuguese megastar.

Hopefully, Rangnick will be able to provide more information on Cavani’s injury and provide a timeline for when he expected the veteran striker to return.

Saturday’s game at Old Trafford is scheduled to kick off at 12.30 p.m (UK time) and will be broadcast live on BT Sport.
