Rangnick confirms Manchester United’s hunt for younger striker

Manchester United plan to sign a younger striker in the summer due to the team being over-reliant on the ageing Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

Ronaldo, 37, has another year left on his contract at the end of the season while Cavani, 35 on Monday, is expected to leave United when his contract expires in 5 months.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has accepted that the club needs to recruit a younger striker ahead of next season.

“This is obvious,” Rangnick said, as per Manchester Evening News. “Edinson’s contract is running out in the summer and the club needs the best possible centre forward. This is an obvious one. I think everyone is aware of that.”

Erling Haaland is on every club’s wishlist this summer, which means it’s going to be incredibly difficult to persuade the Borussia Dortmund goal-machine to opt for United, who he already rejected in 2019.

That was when Haaland went from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund.

The Norwegian has scored 80 goals in 79 appearances for Dortmund and whoever lands him next will be getting Europe’s most wanted striker.

Sadly, however, it looks like United are going to need to find an alternative to match Haaland’s goalscoring ability. That won’t be an easy task for Rangnick and co, but the German knows the transfer market better than most people.
