Luke Shaw believes United can go all the way in Champions League

Luke Shaw admits that Manchester United have not been good enough this season — but deep down he still believes we can win the Champions League.

Maybe it’s just media talk to rally the troops and try to make something of the current campaign.

United have been inconsistent domestically but our form in the Champions League is much better, thanks to a lot of late winners from Cristiano Ronaldo. But we sit fifth in the league and out of every domestic cup.

Whilst Shaw accepts that this season has not gone to plan, with United deciding to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November before appointing Ralf Rangnick as interim manager, he says that there is still belief in the dressing room.

There’s a huge Champions League clash coming up against Atletico Madrid and United will need to be at their best to progress in the competition.

Shaw says he believes United can go all the way — like Chelsea did last season, despite not being favourites.

“The season so far, in general, is, of course, not good enough,” Shaw told talkSPORT.

“I think where we want to be and where we are now are two completely different places.

“Obviously, we’re very devastated about getting knocked out of the FA Cup. It was, obviously, a c competition that we felt that we could win.

“And, of course, we’re not in a position in the league that we want to be in — we don’t deserve to be with the results we’ve had.

“With how bad things are going, with the ups and downs, it’s not good enough for a team that wants to win the title.

“You look at the top teams and their consistency, they’re at a high level and are consistently winning matches — we haven’t been doing that.

“But it’s something we’ve looked at and it’s something we need to improve on.

“Of course, we’re still in the Champions League, a lot of people will doubt us, but we have to have that belief that we can go and win it because it’s important to have that inside the dressing room and to have something to fight for.”
