Tezos secures sponsorship deal with Manchester United

Manchester United is set to announce a new multi-year partnership with blockchain platform Tezos.

According to The Athletic, the parties involved have agreed a deal worth in excess of £20 million per year. The report claims that Manchester United have already shot promotional materials at the club’s training centre ahead of an imminent announcement.

However, it is noted by that Carrington training ground itself is not included in the deal, nor the naming rights for Old Trafford.

United’s eight-year association with American insurance company Aon ended last season. It is believed to have been worth £120 million over the years.

That’s why the training tops have no sponsors this season. Aon had concerns about a fan campaign to boycott United’s commercial partners as part of a protest against the Glazer family. That seemed to work…

But United are getting coin from elsewhere now. They’re associating themselves with a blockchain platform – keeping with the times – which is a type of decentralised computer network like Ethereum.

This is one of the tasks we had listed for Richard Arnold on the latest podcast – a new training shirt sponsor – and it already appears to be in the bag. It must have been in the pipeline for some time.
