(Video) MOTD analysis: Aston Villa 2-2 Manchester United

Micah Richards said it was Bruno Fernandes of last season, back to his best and adding two goals to his season tally.

The Portuguese midfielder was given more freedom in midfield and it looked like he took the responsibility on his shoulders in the first-half yesterday.

Cristiano Ronaldo was absent due to injury but Fernandes did the business in front of goal. It was just a shame we couldn’t do our job at the other end of the pitch after going two goals ahead.

Match of the Day panelist Alan Shearer praised Aston Villa’s new signing Philippe Coutinho, who scored the equaliser at Villa Park on Saturday, and it looks like he will bring a bit of life to Steven Gerrard’s team in the final third.

The MOTD panel gave their views on Douglas Luiz’s stamp on Fernandes but Richards agreed with the referee, saying it was an accident.

Richards: “Where else was he supposed to put his foot?”
