Barcelona keep tabs on out-of-favour Manchester United forward

Anthony Martial could take a decent route out of Manchester United, where he has fallen down the pecking order in terms of attacking options, with Barcelona reportedly keeping tabs on the French forward.

The La Liga giants are not what they were 5-10 years ago and without Lionel Messi they are trying to build something new. It is also believed that while Martial is seen as one of their options in the transfer market, Man City’s Ferran Torres is the prime target (via Eurosport).

Barcelona’s reported interested in Martial comes from Mundo Deportivo, who suggest that new manager and former player Xavi Hernandez is a fan of the former AS Monaco man.

It is difficult to pinpoint where it has gone so wrong for Martial at United.

When Martial signed in September 2015, he made the dream start by scoring on his debut in a 3-1 win over Liverpool. It started to slowly fade after his first season.

On his day, Martial could be of real benefit to Barcelona because he is a player who can give defenders all sorts of headaches.

It’s also worth noting that Ralf Rangnick could find a way to change all of our opinions on Martial as the German takes over on an interim basis for the remainder of the season. I wouldn’t hold my breathe.

Should Martial join Barcelona, he would become one of Memphis Depay’s team-mates again. The former PSV and United man adapted well to the club since joining on a free in the summer.

The move would also see him link up with compatriot Ousmane Dembele.
