Sir Alex Ferguson leading quest as United begin talks with Mauricio Pochettino’s advisors

The rumours surrounding Mauricio Pochettino are beginning to heat up.

First, we had Sky Sports claim he was first choice and now talkSPORT understand Manchester United believe they can make him manager next summer.

This all came after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked as Manchester United manager this morning. His three-year run ended trophy-less but he leaves the squad in a much better place for the next manager.

The talkSPORT report adds that Sir Alex Ferguson is leading the charge to bring Pochettino to the club, with talks already ongoing with the Argentine’s advisors, despite knowing he is currently in charge at Paris Saint-Germain.

Gary Neville believes Pochettino would take the United job tomorrow.

The former Tottenham manager left the Premier League in November 2019, only months after losing the Champions League final to Liverpool, and his sights this season will be to win that competition outright with PSG.

He failed to win Ligue 1 last season when PSG came runners-up behind Lille.

SN’s verdict…

Like I said here, Pochettino is my first choice for the job and it wouldn’t surprise me if Fergie felt the same.

He did a wonderful job at two different Premier League clubs and exceeding expectations.

We could definitely do with a manager like that.
