Bruno Fernandes sends Raphael Varane message after Nations League triumph

Raphael Varane only played a first-half role in France’s UEFA Nations League final win over Spain because his time on the pitch was cut due to injury.

Following the game, Varane posted a photo to Instagram of him holding the trophy.

France beat Spain 2-1 in a game which Varane came off with what looked like a leg injury, though the severity of it is yet unknown.

Varane went down before the end of the first-half holding his leg, but it is unclear whether he was feeling it after tweaking a muscle when running, or when he looked to cut out a Spain cross. He was attended to by the French staff but it quickly became apparent that he would not be able to continue.

Smiling for Instagram and posting with the trophy, Varane’s caption on the image read: “Champions.”

Manchester United team-mate Bruno Fernandes didn’t waste any time by responding to the upload with a number of fire emojis while Jesse Lingard also liked the picture.

Paul Pogba played in midfield for France but Anthony Martial was an unused substitute.
