Edinson Cavani set for United stay despite Barcelona rumours

Barcelona are being linked with a late move for Edinson Cavani but he is expected to remain at Manchester United.

This update comes from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who is spending deadline day live on Twitch, and it suggests that the Uruguayan will be going nowhere this summer.

Reports this morning (several outlets in Spain and Gerard Romero) suggested that Barcelona were in advanced talks to sign the Manchester United forward.

Romero were seemingly wrong with his report because fellow journalist Romano, who has an incredible track record with transfer stories, has heard that there will be no movement between Cavani and Barcelona.

Moreover, United got good news this week on Cavani because his call-up for the Uruguay squad was withdrawn. The 34-year-old was scheduled to join up with Oscar Tabarez’s side ahead of the upcoming round of World Cup qualifiers against Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador.

This comes after Premier League clubs unanimously decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries in September.

Credit to the Uruguayan Football Association for quickly taking note.
