Having guided Manchester United to consecutive top-four finishes for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, there will be added scrutiny on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.
His side is expected to challenge for the Premier League title this season and the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane will certainly not halt talks of a title push from last year’s runner-ups.
The 2021/22 season will be Solskjaer’s third full season in charge of the club and although there has been a significant improvement from each season to next so far, a big jump is needed if they want to end their four-year trophy drought.
Now, the former Molde manager has been compared to Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool in the opening three years where a trophy deceived the German man. The similarities are quite striking, even if Klopp’s Liverpool team is viewed differently after successful campaigns in 2019 and 2020.

Gary Neville, as seen above, highlighted the difference in expenditure as a ‘outstanding coaching performance’ from Jurgen Klopp, as opposed to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has largely seen his side spend more than they bring in – as the comparison shows.
