Raphael Varane will not wear No.4 at Manchester United next season

Raphael Varane is expected to be officially announced as a Manchester United player this week, but the former Real Madrid defender won’t be wearing the number 4 shirt as many expected.

After arriving in the UK and quarantining, the former Real Madrid star began his medical at Carrington, and granted all goes to plan he will be able to train with his new teammates this week.

Sources have told Stretty News that Varane will not wear Phil Jones’ number 4 shirt next season.

In fact, the number he will wear has been described to us as “unexpected” and it won’t be until the official announcement is made that we all know what number Varane will be modelling next term.

We are hopeful that Varane can feature against Leeds in the Premier League opener this weekend, but that is a decision for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make.

Solskjaer has significantly strengthened the team defensively and we shouldn’t leak as many goals from set-pieces this term. United conceded a whopping 18 goals from set-pieces and that issue needs to be addressed before we can mount a proper title challenge.

Let us know in the comments what number you think Varane will be wearing next season?
