David de Gea verdict on new Manchester United arrivals

David de Gea is happy about how Manchester United have gone about their business this summer.

The Spaniard has been working closely with Tom Heaton since returning to the club after Euro 2020, following a free transfer from Aston Villa, while Jadon Sancho joined up at Carrington for his introduction on Monday.

United also expect to announce the signing of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid this weekend, with the 28-year-old working on his medical after arriving in the UK and quarantining.

It’s been a positive transfer window and spirits have been lifted as a result, especially from that night in Gdansk when it felt like all our hard work slipped through the cracks.

De Gea is buzzing with the new arrivals. He told the club’s official website: “It’s always a pleasure to welcome new faces and quality players to add to the group, it’s always a positive.

“We still have the odd player to join up with the group, but [I’m] delighted with the new signings.”

It sounds like De Gea will start on Saturday against Leeds United for our season opener, as Dean Henderson struggles with fatigue after testing positive for coronavirus.

“[I’m especially excited to welcome] Tom, the keeper, who I’m with a lot of more of the time.

“He’s a great bloke and a top keeper. He’s really going to bring a lot of the group and let’s hope it’s the same with the rest of the signings too.

“They have great quality and I reckon that it’ll be easy for them to settle in.”

Competition for places is healthy in a squad, but I do feel we’re slightly overstocked on goalkeepers.

How can Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keep both De Gea and Henderson happy this season?
