Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea were also interested in signing Raphael Varane

Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Raphael Varane after reaching an agreement with Real Madrid over the transfer.

The defender is set to join the club after completing a medical, with several Manchester United sources hopeful that the player will undergo one as soon as on Wednesday this week.

Despite a deal being completed somewhat comfortably, it’s now being reported that Manchester United were not alone in wanting to sign the 28-year-old.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea were both interested in signing the player. Chelsea were seen as a ‘real contender’ in March this year when they contacted Real Madrid over a move. Paris Saint-Germain were also interested but decided to sign Sergio Ramos on a free transfer instead.

As per the report from Romano, Varane was feeling like Manchester United really wanted and prioritized him. It’s believed that the former Lens man was feeling ‘something special’ for the club.
