The two shirt numbers Jadon Sancho could wear at Man Utd

An official announcement for the signing of Jadon Sancho has dragged on and perhaps it was meant to be this way after an excruciatingly long saga. After interest dating back two years, an agreement with Borussia Dortmund was finally announced earlier this month.

The deal, however, was not set to be completed until Sancho had completed his medical and agreed personal terms, as stated in Manchester United’s official statement.

United were made to wait until Sancho’s involvement in this summer’s European Championship was over and the 21-year-old completed his medical just two days after England’s final loss to Italy.

No announcement has been yet as of eight days later and thus, speculation over Sancho’s shirt number remains. The hallowed number seven is the choice for all the romantics out there but Edinson Cavani currently occupies the number.

According to Manchester United journalist Andy Mitten, via The National News, the former Manchester City youngster is expected to wear No16, or more likely, No7, when he finally joins the club.

Cavani is expected to leave the club next year upon the expiry of his contract so should Sancho decide to wear No16, it is likely that he will change his number in time for his second campaign.

Update (14:53)
The original article in The National News, as cited above, has been edited. It is now claimed that Sancho is likely to wear No16.
