Jadon Sancho is set to sign for Manchester United after the club reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund over the transfer. The 21-year-old has remained quiet over a move but is now set to complete a deal bringing him back to England after a four-year spell in the Bundesliga.
Speculation over what shirt number Jadon Sancho would inherit at Manchester United has dominated discussions on social media but according to The Athletic, the winger will take on the historic number seven.
Sancho will follow in the footsteps of George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo in wearing the iconic number but the report does not specify which number Edinson Cavani will take up.
The Uruguayan forward enjoyed a stellar first season as Manchester United’s number seven but will now be forced to wear a different number in his last season.
Jadon Sancho’s arrival will be welcomed by supporters, who have withstood endless speculation over a potential move for over a year.
It’s possible — that was agreed in 2020 if the deal had gone through then, but it’s unconfirmed this time round and the reference has been removed from our piece 👍

Update: David Ornstein, writer of the The Athletic piece cited above, has now removed the line of the article but maintains that it remains a possibility.
Reports of Jadon Sancho taking up the number seven shirt have now been backed up by German journalist Patrick Berger, who tweeted the news after the two clubs reached an agreement.
