Manchester United have suffered a huge blow in their bid to close the gap on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. According to reports, Pep Guardiola’s side are set to complete the £88m signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

That’s according to an exclusive from CaughtOffside, who say that the Aston Villa captain will join the blue side of Manchester when his involvement in this summer’s European Championships is over.

The winger has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the past, but according to CaughtOffside, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have never expressed an interest in Grealish, allowing Manchester City to seal the transfer uncontested.

Aston Villa are set to receive £88m for their talisman, a record sale for the Birmingham club and just short of the £89m British transfer record – set by Paul Pogba on his return to Manchester United in 2019.

Elsewhere, Manchester United are said to be closing in on the signing of Jadon Sancho, formerly of Manchester City. That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who says that only details remain in the deal.
