Manchester United have told Diogo Dalot they want him to return to the club despite interest from AC Milan to re-sign the Portuguese full-back.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Dalot has been informed to report for pre-season training next month, with United showing zero intention of negotiating any further with Milan.

United have been linked with two different right-backs in the past week, including Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier and Norwich City’s Max Aarons, not to mention the fact Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a solid first choice option.

Dalot made 34 appearances for Milan last season and I don’t see him making anywhere near the same at United next season.

After getting a call up to the Portugal Euro 2020 squad he should be aiming to play more football, not less.

It wasn’t clear – the season before last – whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had any faith in Dalot, who also had his problems with injuries at the time. It could be different next season.
