Roy Keane tells Manchester United exactly what they need in the transfer market

Roy Keane believes Manchester United need to sign a new centre-forward this summer.

Regardless of Edinson Cavani’s future, the former United captain wants to see a prolific goalscorer signed in the coming months.

United are one of the clubs being linked with Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.

“Yes 100 per cent because United will need one,” Keane said on Sky Sports when asked if United should sign a new centre-forward, after beating Tottenham 2-1.

“Anthony Martial’s injury problems mean you wouldn’t hang your hat on him, Edinson Cavani’s pushing on so he can’t play every week.

“United want to get back to winning titles so they’ll certainly need another striker. Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, I’d take either of them.”

Keane’s preference is Haaland due to the Norwegian being younger with a higher ceiling for development.

“Probably Haaland because of his age and the investment behind it but I wouldn’t say no to Kane either if he was the second option.”

United fans would be delighted with either signing but they won’t come on the cheap. Daniel Levy is not going to want to lose Kane but losing him to another Premier League would be a huge blow.

I also think we should wait to see what happens at Spurs between now and the end of the season. Especially when it sounds like José Mourinho is in meltdown mode.

Goals from Fred, Cavani and Mason Greenwood saw United beat Spurs 3-1 on Sunday.
