Bruno Fernandes has hit back at criticism aimed at himself and his Manchester United teammates ahead of the derby against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
United are huge underdogs against Pep Guardiola’s runaway league leaders and Fernandes could play a huge part if the Reds are to get a result this afternoon.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are goalless in their last three games and Fernandes has been singled out by many for a dip in performance levels.
Fernandes is the Premier League’s second highest scorer this season but his failure to deliver and provide match-winning moments against the ‘Big Six’ teams has attracted criticism.
The Portugal international responded to this criticism in an interview with Sky Sports before the derby and said he a ‘little bit sad’ about some of the negativity.
But he is also prepared to bear the brunt of what is aimed at him and his teammates and is confident he will start scoring in the big moments for United.
Fernandes starts against City this afternoon behind an attacking trident of Daniel James, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
