Why David de Gea and Anthony Martial are missing from Man Utd squad to face Crystal Palace

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained the absence of Anthony Martial and David de Gea from his Manchester United squad to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this evening.

The United boss has made four changes to his starting lineup, with Dean Henderson replacing De Gea in goal and Edinson Cavani returning to lead the line.

Eric Bailly partners captain Harry Maguire in central defence and Nemanja Matic joins Fred in the midfield axis.

Solskjaer noted in his pre-match interview that Martial picked up an injury in training, and De Gea is missing due to personal reasons.

“[David] is personal reasons, Anthony got a knock in training on Monday on his knee, not ready for this, hopefully for the weekend but we’re not sure yet,” he told MUTV, as quoted by the MEN’s Tyrone Marshall.

De Gea’s absence means Henderson gets his third Premier League start of the season, with Lee Grant the substitute goalkeeper.

Cavani hasn’t featured for the Reds since the draw against West Brom at the Hawthorns last month and his return provides a welcome boost for Solskjaer.

Solskjaer’s attacking options from the bench include Amad, Daniel James and Shola Shoretire.

Man Utd XI to face Crystal Palace: Henderson, Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw, Matic, Fred, Fernandes, Rashford, Cavani, Greenwood.
