Manchester United player ratings vs Man City: Anthony Martial and Aaron Wan-Bissaka poor

Dean Henderson

Helpless in conceding first goal of competition as Stones fumbled home. Stunning save to prevent Riyad Mahrez scoring a fine second. Stranded as Fernandinho drilled in to seal City win. 6

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Effectively assisted Fernandinho for City’s second ten minutes from time with horrific clearance. Troubled by Foden throughout and showed no attacking ambition. 3

Victor Lindelof

Looked assured in early stages but isn’t as imposing at the back as Maguire’s more effective partner Eric Bailly who was dropped. 5

Harry Maguire

Accountable for City’s opener as he was caught completely static for the set-piece goal. Defended stoutly in first-half but his efforts were in vain. 5

Luke Shaw

Recovered well to tame Sterling despite being too narrow on occasions. Lost Stones ball watching for City’s winner. Not as ambitious on the overlap as in recent performances. 4

Fred

Diligent in defence but needed to release ball quicker for attackers. Surprisingly not substituted earlier after receiving second-half yellow. 6

Scott McTominay

Silly foul conceded free-kick that led to City’s decisive goal. Not penetrative enough in possession and subbed for Greenwood as Solskjaer targeted equaliser. 4

Bruno Fernandes

Careless at times after picking up good positions. Drew magnificent first-half save from Zach Steffen. 4

Paul Pogba

Not as effective from the left as he was against Aston Villa. Lacked quality and decision making was uncharacteristically poor. 4

Marcus Rashford

Caused problems for Zinchenko in first-half but starved of good opportunities as he faded after the break. 4

Anthony Martial

Impotent leading the line which has not been uncommon in recent weeks. Solskjaer would have loved to utilise Cavani on this occasion. 4

Substitutes

Mason Greenwood

Should have been introduced earlier. No chance of sparking unlikely comeback and barely involved. 5

Donny van de Beek

N/A
