Manchester United fans are delighted with the appointment of Darren Fletcher into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team coaching staff.
The club confirmed Fletcher’s new role at Old Trafford in an official statement on their website.
Fletcher, who came through the youth system at United before making over 300 first-team appearances, had been developing United’s young talents after being brought in to coach the U16’s in October.
And the 36-year-old will now join former midfield teammate Michael Carrick, Kieran McKenna and Mike Phelan in Solskjaer’s backroom staff.
Solskjaer believes the Scotsman has all the attributes needed to succeed alongside him coaching the first-team.
“Darren has the United DNA running through his veins and he knows exactly what it takes to be a Manchester United player,” he told ManUtd.com
“He is at the start of his coaching career and his experience both on and off the pitch along with his winning mentality, commitment and hard work will be a great addition to the staff.”
Like Solskjaer, Fletcher was a serial winner at United throughout his playing days at Old Trafford.
Fletcher won five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup before moving to West Brom in 2015 and finishing his playing career at Stoke City.
He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge and has always been thorough and articulate in his analysis of the game that we have heard in the media.

Darren Fletcher is a tactics obsessive. Wishes he could watch games and get lost in them as a fan rather than studying tactics. Spoke to him last week for piece out tomorrow or Weds. He's smart. Quality that he's working at MUFC – he's actually been back a while.

Easy to level ‘old boys’ club’ accusation when former players return but Darren Fletcher has always been an articulate and enlightening analyst of the game. #mufc had been looking to add him to their set-up two years ago and he has the attributes to be a success in new role.

The more experience McKenna, Carrick & Fletcher get, eventually we could bring in Evra or Vidic, both have elite mentality and know more about the defending side of things!
