Manchester United deserved their 2-1 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford in what was a tough encounter.

Easy games don’t come around very often in the Premier League and Dean Smith’s Aston Villa side are one of the most improved teams in the top flight this season.

We are now joint top with Liverpool, in second place on goal difference, after beating Villa 2-1 thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes.

Eric Bailly also deserves credit for his defending on the night — especially at the end as his team-mates rushed to celebrate with him at the full-time whistle.

The Ivorian has had to overcome many injuries since joining United — with last night being the first time since 2017 that he’s started four consecutive league matches.

He tweeted after the match: “Good way to begin the New Year. +3!”

Below we’ve got more reactions to the game from United players on social media.
