Former Daily Mail reporter Robert Summerscales have ranked the top 10 footballers in the world for CaughtOffside. Although every football would be happy to make the list, we think Bruno Fernandes deserves a higher spot than ninth.

Football is a game of opinions — that’s what makes it so great.

It would be boring if every top 10 list was the same and nobody disagreed.

Firstly, it’s great to see Bruno Fernandes get the acknowledgement he deserves for his past year on the pitch.

It’s amazing to think he’s going to get better as his presence within the side grows over time.

Simmerscales’ top 10 footballers in the world are ranked as follows:

10. Joshua Kimmich
9. Bruno Fernandes
8. Jan Oblak
7. Son Heung-min
6. Mohamed Salah
5. Trent Alexander-Arnold
4. Robert Lewandowski
3. Harry Kane
2. Kevin de Bruyne
1. Kylian Mbappe

There’s no denying that Fernandes is in good company (where’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi?) but it seems bold having a goalkeeper ahead of him in the listing, never mind the fact I think he will overtake De Bruyne soon as the Premier League’s best playmaker.

I reckon next year Fernandes will be in a higher position than ninth.
