Today’s win over Southampton saw Manchester United recover from two goals down to record a stunning win at St. Mary.
Southampton took the lead prior to half-time but an injury time goal from Edinson Cavani made matters a lot better for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Looking back at the game, I don’t think anyone could say Southampton deserved to take a lead into half-time. They scored against the run of play and a stunning James Ward-Prowse free-kick proved too much a task for David de Gea as it would’ve done for most goalkeepers.
Despite being the better team from the start United still looked very vulnerable. This is a team we all know struggles with consistency, but it was great seeing them come from a two goal deficit to win the game at St. Mary’s, especially when Southampton have been in excellent form this season.
Bruno Fernandes found himself in the right place at the right time to pull one back for the Reds. Cavani, after coming on from the bench, played a brilliant ball into the Portuguese playmaker who finished like a striker inside the box.
Southampton tried to see the game out but United then won a free kick. Fernandes played it to Marcus Rashford, his cross was met at the near post by Cavani, who headed the ball past Southampton’s goalkeeper.
It was the Uruguayan who scored the stoppage time winner too.

Cavani at the start of the 2nd half. He knew that he was coming to cause havoc, so he gave the others a headstart… 😎🏹 #Mufc pic.twitter.com/CypojgdS8i

The funniest part of our season so far is the reluctance (from the media) to include United within the title race conversation — so many eyes focused on others whilst we quietly improve along the way. #MUFC pic.twitter.com/QCqa1ZJvG0

Edinson Cavani won't be able to do much post match media as he's walking across Southampton Water.

That's more than 3 points for Utd, that will give the team so much confidence. Beyond his goals, Cavani ran his legs off and showed a leadership Utd have been badly missing. It's been a while since we've enjoyed a dramatic come back win with Utd relentlessly on the front foot!

Everyone knows this isn’t yet a classic United team but how can you not be happy with what you saw today? The team showed great character and played some good football at times. Who knows what they could go on to achieve? I for one am a happy chappie this evening.

Are we allowed to talk about how brilliant @HarryMaguire93 has been for the last 6 weeks since the Newcastle away game yet?! Keeping the haters quiet. 🤫 So chuffed for him! Always had complete faith he would turn it around. Form is temporary, class is permanent! My Captain!!! ❤️
