Manchester United travelled to Goodison Park this afternoon in today’s early Premier League kick-off and were looking to snatch all three-points away from Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came into today’s game under immense pressure and will be delighted with his side’s 3-1 win.
United named a cautious starting 11 which included Juan Mata over new-signing Donny van de Beek with Alex Telles sidelined due to a recent COVID-19 isolation period and Mason Greenwood missing all together.
The Reds sat in 15th-place prior to today’s game and knew that a defeat would mean they could have slipped to as low as 17th.
In light of Solskjaer’s 3-1 win away at Goodison Park, we have rated every United player who featured.
David De Gea
Not much he could have done to prevent Everton’s opener. United’s number-one didn’t have much to do all afternoon.
Rating: 6/10
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Majorly at fault for Bernard’s opener after just 19-minutes.
Not his best game but did improve in the second-half.
Rating: 5/10
Victor Lindelof
The Swede had an okay game but did leave Wan-Bissaka exposed after a badly mistimed header against Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the second-half which forced a dangerous Everton free-kick.
Overall though, Lindelof had a decent performance and will take some budging from that centre-back position.
Rating: 6/10
Harry Maguire
Nothing major to report. Captain did well and was really commanding in the air all afternoon.
No glaringly obvious mistakes.
Rating: 7/10
Luke Shaw
Had a decent game and looked much improved in his crossing after the English left-back helped set team-mate Bruno Fernandes up in the first-half for United’s equaliser.
Subbed off for Axel Tuanzebe in the 67th-minute.
Rating: 6/10
Fred
Industrious as usual. Quickly becoming the hub of Solskjaer’s midfield.
The Brazilian helped to break up the creative flair of Everton’s James Rodriguez and kept Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure at bay throughout.
Rating: 8/10
Scott McTominay
Poor really. Several passes went astray in both the first and the second-half. The Scotsman will do well to get another start against West Brom.
Rating: 5/10
Bruno Fernandes
United number-18 came up with the goods when they mattered on two separate occasions during the first-half.
The Portuguese midfielder scored both United’s equaliser and their second to put them into the lead during the first-half.
Fernandes worked his socks off all afternoon and was arguably United’s best player on the pitch.
Rating: 8/10
Juan Mata
Almost forgot the Spaniard was on the pitch. Offered very little going forward and didn’t contribute much in defence.
Subbed off in the 81st-minute for Paul Pogba.
Rating: 4/10
Marcus Rashford
Came close to nicking United’s second goal but failure to make a clear contact meant it went down as a Fernandes brace.
Quiet game overall today, nothing went his way. The newly turned 23-year-old will have better days in a United shirt.
Rating: 5/10
Anthony Martial
Totally ineffective. May as well not have bothered boarding the coach.
Poor.
Subbed off in the 81st-minute for Edinson Cavani.
Rating: 3/10
Subs:
Axel Tuanzebe
Got a good half an hour run out and filled in well at left-back.
The young Englishman is growing into a first-team role really well.
Rating: 6/10
Paul Pogba
Only had 10-minutes on the pitch, tough to judge but didn’t give away any needless goal deciding penalties so that’s an improvement on last time out.
Rating: 5/10
Edinson Cavani
Unlucky not to have won a penalty after beating Michael Keane to a loose ball inside the box.
The South American looked lively and finally managed to open his United account deep into extra-time after a quick counter-attacker from Fernandes meant the new-signing could not miss.
Rating: 7/10
