Jadon Sancho form down to Manchester United, says Lucien Favre

Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre believes Jadon Sancho’s slow start to the season could be down to the constant speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.

Sure, that can be pretty distracting for a 20-year-old footballer!

Dortmund are in Champions League action tonight against Zenit Saint Petersburg and Sancho will be hoping he gets the nod.

Manager Lucien Favre has brushed off concerns about linking Jadon Sancho’s form this season, but admits the constant speculation linking the forward with Manchester United may have had an ‘influence’ of some sort.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to sign Sancho during the summer but the club failed to deliver and the 20-year-old was left with no choice but to remain.

Sancho’s performances have already come into question this season, with German outlet Bild recently suggesting that Sancho’s head could be elsewhere.

But Favre doesn’t want to believe any of that just yet. The season has only started and he will want Sancho to reach the highest of his first two years at Dortmund.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke didn’t rule out a future move to Old Trafford for Sancho, claiming United “misjudged” the situation in the summer (via Manchester Evening News/ZDF Sports).

Asked about Sancho’s form, Favre said (via The Metro): “Every player has weaker phases.

“There was a lot of talk about Jadon in the summer, something like that can also have an influence.

“But no player is in top form for a whole year, that’s impossible. You have to accept that.”

The quotes have also been cited by TV2 in Norway.

United stepped up their interest in Edinson Cavani after missing out on Sancho. On top of that, former United left-back Patrice Evra believes the Uruguayan will be a more important signing than Sancho, who is still a very young player with lots of learning to do.

Cavani played no part in United’s wins away at Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain. He could start against RB Leipzig tonight.
