Gary Neville urges Manchester United to sign a right winger

Even though Gary Neville is a pundit nowadays, the love for Manchester United is still alive and you can imagine he is feeling pretty flat about his club at the moment.

United have known for over a year that in this transfer window they would target Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

The latest on Sancho, as we reported last night, is Manchester United will not be forced into a deal for the winger. Dortmund are asking for a price United deem unrealistic in the current market, which has took a major hit from the global pandemic.

Reports in Germany (via Sky Germany) suggested on Tuesday that United made a £90m bid for Sancho which was rejected by his club. However, The Mirror’s David McDonnell reports no bid has been made.

It’s a deal many are waiting to happen but we’ve not seen the level of progress we would have wanted this summer.

Manchester United have managed just one signing so far this summer, with Donny van de Been arriving from Ajax. The Netherlands international has only made substitute appearances in the Premier League, but he started in last week’s Carabao Cup win over Luton Town. He could start again tonight (vs Brighton in the same competition) in order to get extra minutes ahead of Tottenham in the league on Sunday.

One Twitter user asked former player Gary Neville what he thought about United at right-back, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka struggling to deliver good crosses. Neville’s response was brilliant: “I’d do what they did in the 90’s. Get a right winger that can…”

Neville and David Beckham has a great understanding down the right flank for years. You can also throw the fact Beckham was spotted at a young age by United and developed in the academy before becoming a first team regular.

Sancho requires negotiations over a whopping deal which is obviously more complicated.

Let us know if you think United will sign Sancho before the transfer deadline on 5 October.
