Ian Wright accuses Manchester United of ‘dithering’ over transfers

Ian Wright has urged Manchester United to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

The 21-year-old impressed with his performances in the Champions League last season, most notably against Atletico Madrid.

Upamecano recently revealed he held talks about a potential move away from RB Leipzig and his focus, for now, is the Bundesliga club (via Manchester Evening News).

We all know that would quickly change if United came knocking with an offer in the morning, and former Arsenal star Wright thinks we should make move.

When you look at the defence — despite Solskjaer claiming to be happy with it — it shouldn’t be hard to look into the transfer market to find better options.

Victor Lindelof is an awful partner to Harry Maguire, but hopefully we see more combinations in the foreseeable future — and one consisting of a new signing.

He also told United to complete a deal to sign England international Jadon Sancho, which is the main transfer fans are getting impatient over.

“Upamecano, 21-years-old, he’s probably desperate to go somewhere like Manchester United,” Wright said on The Kelly & Wrighty Show. “Why aren’t they doing that deal? Especially when you watch how Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof played the other day.

“We know that the goalkeeper [is struggling]. I think Dean Henderson coming in there is not going to help David de Gea.

“I think it’s going to put him under pressure knowing that there’s somebody who’s going to cause him problems, and I think we’re going to see more mistakes out of him.

“But why aren’t they doing that deal [for Upamecano]? Why aren’t they going and doing the deal? Why aren’t they doing the Jadon Sancho deal? They are dithering, and what’s going to happen is they are going to get caught up and passed.”

United definitely need to improve defensively but they also need to add a player who will score 15+ goals in the league every season.

I would expect that from Sancho — increasing to 20+ in the next year or two.
