On this day 2016: Paul Pogba returns to Man United in world record transfer

Manchester United completed the signing of Paul Pogba from Juventus for a then world record transfer fee on this day in 2016.

Pogba was 23 at the time and had been sold by United to Juve four years earlier for a £1.5m. Then in 2016, the Reds decided to pay £89m to take him back to Old Trafford, as per BBC Sport.

The transfer fee world record has since been broken six times, with PSG’s Neymar currently the most expensive player costing the Ligue 1 side £198m (The Guardian).

Pogba has struggled to make the impact everyone at United wanted when he signed, but things are picking up… not just for the Frenchman – but the overall team.

I think most Reds you ask want Pogba to stay as long as he performs like everyone knows he can.

With Bruno Fernandes helping pull strings from midfield and Nemanja Matic offered assurances to our defence, Pogba is under less pressure and looks more focused than ever.

He missed a lot of this season because of injuries, but it’s hard not to be optimistic about next season now since he’s formed a vibrant partnership with Fernandes.

Pogba shared a rather interesting Instagram story on Saturday asking his followers if they remember his new hairstyle. United fans on Reddit claim it’s the same hairstyle Pogba had when he re-joined the Reds in 2016 – so, is it a hint he’s about to use a “shaaaaarpppppyyy” to sign a new contract?
