Man United defender Luke Shaw calls for Premier League season to be voided if not finished

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw believes this Premier League season should be scrapped if it cannot reach its natural conclusion.

The Premier League has been suspended indefinitely amid the coronavirus crisis and there is no indication of when football will be safe to return.

Therefore, voiding the current league campaign remains a realistic possibility unless the authorities find a way of truncating next season.

Shaw, who was reaching his best form for United before the COVID-19 postponement, has made his thoughts clear on the outcome of the league.

“Scrap it and start again,” Shaw said on the Combat Corona Twitch FIFA competition livestream, as quoted by the Mirror.

“Start it again, yeah.

“It’s gotta be you know. If we can’t carry it on it’s got to be void.”

While United fans will revel in the fact Liverpool would have lost what was pretty much a guaranteed league title, we must remember that it is beneficial for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to complete the season.

The Reds are still fighting on three fronts; the FA Cup, Europa League and top four spot in the Premier League are all achievable for United if the season is finished.

We hope football is safe to return before June and the games can be completed without having too much of an affect on next season.

But we should also be aware of the possibility that the league may have to be voided.
